Failure Is Not An Option, but Neither Is Success

nasa_2043_88182010 I love NASA, the intelligence, the talent and the hope it presents for the future. Last year I was in Houston, TX for a conference. On my way home I bought a “Failure is not and option” NASA mug for my wife. Really it was for her… It is huge and perfect for the excessive amount of coffee she has every morning.

NASA’s slogan got me thinking about how some companies pursue business… Failure may not be an option, but neither is success?

A Beautiful Saturn Night

newrings_cassini_big

I am a huge fan of the Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) website. I have no idea how many people visit APOD, but it is not enough! The pictures that are there are nothing short of breathtaking. As a fan of NASA and space exploration, I have to share this unbelievable picture of Saturn in eclipse. To may this is just another sign of the magnificence of the Universe and God’s creation.

According to APOD, the little blue dot to the left of the main or bright rings, is the Earth.

Happy Fifth Anniversary – Spirit

lander_digging Five years ago NASA’s Spirit Rover started its 3 hour cruise 3 month tour of Mars. It is amazing to think that a probe scheduled and designed to last 3 months, has lasted 5 years and is still kicking!

I am a huge fan of NASA and even though they have failed and made mistakes, the genius of the people that work there amaze me. Keep up the good work NASA.

Oh and as a side note, could we get your engineers to design a few cars for GM, Ford and Chrysler….

Mars Lander (in) Terminal (Mode)

lander_digging I love NASA and have always dreamed of some how being involved with them. I have been lucky to deal with a few of the contractors and have even been to a couple R&D facilities. But the idea of being part of something on the scale of the "Moon Race", is just one of those idealistic dreams. My professional skills don’t match-up much with who NASA hires… But I can dream!

Well the Phoenix Lander is now terminal. The lander will die in a few weeks and NASA has put in in Terminal Mode. The lander will wake up, perform a few tests and then shut down daily. This will last for awhile and then it will be silence.
