But It’s Not Google (Bing.com)

I was reading TechCrunch this morning and was surprised to see the review for Microsoft’s new search engine Bing. Bing is the replacement for Live Search. I haven’t had a chance to try it out much, but so far it is much needed improvement over Live search. Not sure if it has hit the Google level yet, but I’ll use Bing for my main search engine just like I used Live.

Well give Bing a try and see what you think. I’ll make my assessment after a few days of use.

Live.com Search Page

I use Live.com for most searches, though Google is still very useful when I am not finding what I want… One of my favorite parts of using Live.com is the picture on that changes every day. It has become as addicting to me as the Astronomy Picture of the Day…

One of the compelling parts to me is the information they are embedding. They generally put a link to where it was taken (Live Map) and other information using Live Search (including other Live services.

Here is today’s picture… It is beautiful and I would love to visit Santorini.

Windows Live Wave 3 Review

Arstechnica.com did nice review of Windows Live Wave 3. It is good to see Microsoft getting some good press for the Live services. Last summer I left Google due to privacy concerns and moved over to Windows Live. I also like the Live.com email address; as I rarely have to spell it for anybody.

Check out the review by Arstechnica.com and check out what Microsoft is offering. They have some nice free applications….

Google Goes Native

With Microsoft SilverLight taking on Adobe Flash/Flex for the Rich Internet Applications (RIA) and Java having some issues of recent, it would make perfect sense for Google to get into the game and it will be interesting to see their approach. I have argued with friends that the PC is going nowhere soon and all these RIAs are just more proof the web/cloud is not ready for prime time.

Google is working on "Native Client" a RIA and the key issue is can they get developers to work against it. Microsoft is great at creating applications and technologies for developers. Google has to move to intercept Microsoft on the RIA front. SilverLight is moving forward nicely and is not tied strictly to Windows.
