Windows 7 Beta – Part 1
I have gone through the installation of Windows 7 Beta. Like the millions of others, I have notice a nice improvement on the speed of installation. Boot up is fairly fast and is faster than my Vista Laptop. Though to be fair, it is running SQL Express, IIS 7 and a whole host of applications.
What is really impressing is the responsiveness of the UI. Internet Explorer 8 Beta (IE
is very quick and is rendering web pages better than IE 7. I currently use Fire Fox 3, but that is just due to render speed of IE7 on several of my most visited websites.
I always like to see what toys are in a new OS and I found a fun one. You can have a slide show as your desktop background. You can set a timer on how often the image changes. I love worthless toys like this, it just makes the experience a little more interesting. Pick a few images and let them rotate every 30 minutes or hour.
I want to did into the networking ability of Windows 7 as that is where I think all OS’s need vast improvements. Networking should be faster, simpler and setup as domains, not workgroups. This helps control access and security, so I will be interested in how Microsoft approaches this.
More to come later as I get my hands and thoughts around Windows 7 Beta. So far I like what I am seeing…
I do like the humor that is apparent… If you can’t tell, that is a “Betta Fish” as the default back ground. Get it, Windows 7 Beta / Betta Fish?
